Illegal Crackers and Fake QR Codes Found in Delhi's Sadar Bazar
· India · India Today
Authorities have identified a surge in the sale of illegal firecrackers in Delhi's Sadar Bazar market ahead of the festive season. Traders are reportedly using fake QR codes on packaging to pass off prohibited items as certified green crackers. This illicit trade persists despite strict regulations and bans imposed to curb air pollution in the National Capital Region. The Supreme Court has expressed concerns regarding the city's deteriorating air quality as it begins hearings on pollution-related matters. Investigations into the scale of these illegal sales and the origin of the counterfeit labels are ongoing.
Why it matters
The sale of non-compliant firecrackers directly undermines efforts to control hazardous air pollution levels in Delhi, posing significant health risks to residents during the winter months.
