Illegal Mosque Demolished in Saharanpur District Magistrate Complex
· India · Times of India, Indian Express
Authorities in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, demolished a mosque located within the District Magistrate's office complex on Saturday. The demolition followed a court order that upheld a previous ruling declaring the structure an illegal encroachment on government land. The site was secured by Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel as bulldozers removed the structure. In July, the City Magistrate's court had ordered the demolition and imposed a compensation of approximately Rs 6.41 crore on the occupants. The action was initiated after a complaint alleged the premises were being used for commercial purposes, including renting rooms to outsiders.
Why it matters
The demolition reflects the administration's ongoing efforts to clear government premises of alleged illegal structures, impacting local administrative operations and land usage.
