IMA Seeks Review Of Sunny Deol's Film Suryaa Over Doctor Portrayal
· Entertainment · Hindustan Times, Times of India, Indian Express
The Indian Medical Association has written to Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to request an urgent review of the upcoming film Suryaa-Ant Se Aarambh Tak. The association objects to the film's teaser, which depicts corruption in the healthcare system and shows violence against medical staff. The IMA warned that such portrayals could negatively influence public trust and normalize violence against healthcare workers. The film, directed by M Padmakumar and starring Sunny Deol, is scheduled for release on November 20. The doctors' body has called for corrective measures or a potential ban if the content is found to be harmful.
Why it matters
The IMA's objection highlights growing concerns within the medical fraternity regarding the public perception of doctors and the safety of healthcare workers in the face of media depictions.
