IMA urges I&B ministry to review ‘Suryaa’ promo, cites corruption, violence
· Entertainment · Times of India, Bollywood Hungama
The Indian Medical Association has written to the Information and Broadcasting ministry urging an urgent review of the promotional content of Sunny Deol-starrer film ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’. The letter, dated Oct 22, alleges the film generalises corruption in the medical profession and depicts physical assaults on doctors, nurses and hospital staff in a manner that could erode public trust and endanger healthcare workers. IMA flagged that such portrayals could normalise violence against medical professionals already facing safety challenges, and could demoralise medical students from joining the field. The association stressed that while individual wrongdoing must be punished, the actions of a few should not tarnish the reputation of the entire medical community.
Why it matters
The move directly affects the medical fraternity and public confidence in healthcare, as negative portrayals risk normalising violence against doctors and deterring young people from entering the profession.
