The India Meteorological Department expects the southwest monsoon to start withdrawing from west Rajasthan around September 19. This year’s monsoon season has recorded a cumulative rainfall deficit of over 14% as of September 14, with officials anticipating a final deficit of 10% or more. The IMD previously forecasted a below-normal monsoon due to El Nino, a climatic condition linked to weaker rainfall in India. While kharif crop acreage remains near last year's levels, the final impact on agricultural yields will only be clear after harvesting begins in October.
