IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Across North and Central India

The India Meteorological Department has warned that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will continue across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. A weakening depression over eastern India continues to pump large amounts of moisture into northern and central regions. The IMD issued a red alert for East Uttar Pradesh, warning of isolated rainfall exceeding 21 cm. Orange alerts for very heavy rainfall remain in place for Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh. The weather system originated over the northwest Bay of Bengal and moved across Jharkhand and Bihar.
Why it matters
The heavy rainfall poses flood risks in low-lying areas and threatens standing crops across Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states.
