Imphal-Guwahati Bus Service Resumes After Three Years of Unrest

· India · The Hindu, NDTV, Hindustan Times

The Imphal-Guwahati bus service via Nagaland's Dimapur resumed on Friday after more than three years of suspension due to ethnic conflict in Manipur. Government officials confirmed that 125 passengers departed from Imphal in two buses and five wingers traveling along National Highway-2. The reopening follows an announcement by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on August 8 to clear highway blockades and allow free movement for all communities. Passengers and local residents welcomed the restoration of the crucial inter-State link as a step toward sustainable peace. The vehicles crossed Kangpokpi and Senapati districts before entering Nagaland en route to Guwahati.

Why it matters

The restoration of surface transport along National Highway-2 marks a vital milestone in reconnecting Manipur with Assam and rebuilding inter-community ties after years of blockade.
