In a 1st, TN CM Vijay ditches his chair, sits with ministers in assembly
· India · Times of India, NDTV, India Today
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday sat among his cabinet colleagues on the back benches of the state legislative assembly in Chennai, leaving the chief minister's designated front-row chair empty. It is the first time a sitting CM of Tamil Nadu has occupied the benches reserved for ministers rather than the CM's chair, according to the report. The move came during a session where the DMK government was facing the opposition AIADMK and BJP. Stalin's action was aimed at sending a message of solidarity with his ministers, particularly after the Speaker had reportedly criticised some of them.
Why it matters
The gesture marks a notable break with assembly protocol and signals Stalin's effort to project unity within the DMK cabinet at a time when the ruling party is engaged in sharp floor battles with the AIADMK and BJP in the Tamil Nadu assembly.
