In a big blow to AAP, 2 MLAs quit party after 1st candidate list announcement

· India · Times of India, India Today

Two AAP MLAs resigned from the party on Sunday, a day after the Aam Aadmi Party announced its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. Chetan Singh Jouramajra from Samana and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanour, both in Patiala district, quit primary membership. Pathanmajra sent his resignation letter to AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, while Jouramajra announced his decision on social media. The resignations come as AAP begins preparations for the 2027 polls, although the party has not yet announced candidates for their respective constituencies.

Why it matters

The resignations weaken AAP's position ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, particularly as two sitting MLAs have quit shortly after the first candidate list was released.
