India has expressed readiness to negotiate a bilateral investment treaty with Canada following the first Economic and Financial Dialogue held in Toronto on Thursday. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Canadian counterpart Francois-Philippe Champagne discussed strengthening economic ties to support a shared trade target of CA$ 70 billion by 2030. The ministers emphasized the importance of closer cooperation to build resilient economies amid global trade and tariff disruptions. Negotiators are currently working toward a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which leaders aim to conclude by the end of this year.
