India and Canada Preparing to Elevate Bilateral Ties, Says Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India and Canada are preparing to take their bilateral relationship to a higher level following a productive meeting with Canadian counterpart Anita Anand in New York. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, building on earlier statements by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney regarding ongoing trade negotiations. Carney previously noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Canada in December for trade talks concerning a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. During the UNGA visit, Jaishankar also met with the foreign ministers of Venezuela, Belarus, and Mexico to discuss energy cooperation and regional issues.
