India marked the start of its annual Ganesh Chaturthi festival on Monday, 14 September 2026, with Hindu families and community groups installing brightly decorated Ganesha idols in homes and public shrines. In Mumbai, bustling markets filled with devotees purchasing idols, flowers, and sweets while larger displays were transported through the streets on decorated trucks accompanied by traditional drumming. Hyderabad witnessed massive crowds gathering around a towering 69-foot-tall, five-faced Ganesha idol in the Khairatabad neighbourhood, symbolising the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space. The ten-day celebrations will conclude on Anant Chaturdashi on Friday, 25 September 2026, when processions carry the idols for immersion in water bodies.
