INDIA bloc seeks complete files, objections by ECs to SIR, access logs, meeting minutes
· India · Times of India, Zee News
Opposition INDIA bloc leaders led a march to the Supreme Court on Monday to file a joint petition challenging the Election Commission's handling of voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision and the architecture governing EVMs. Prominent leaders participating in the march and petition included Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress chief Malligansharjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav, and TMC's Saugata Roy. The petitioners requested the apex court to establish a panel led by a retired Supreme Court judge and comprising technical experts to examine electoral-roll databases and SIR rollout processes. They also sought the suspension of the SIR process in poll-bound states like Punjab without questioning its underlying legality. Additionally, the petition flagged alleged unlawful modifications to Form 6 used for registering new voters, arguing that unauthorized conditions impose burdens on first-time registrants.
Why it matters
The legal challenge directly questions the operational transparency of India's election machinery ahead of crucial state polls.
