India Faces Doping Crisis Ahead of Asian Games

· Sports · Indian Express, Sportstar

India's preparations for the upcoming Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya have been disrupted by a series of doping violations, with Greco-Roman wrestler Deepak becoming the latest athlete to be provisionally suspended. Deepak is the third wrestler to test positive for a prohibited substance, leaving India unrepresented in three weight categories. The National Anti-Doping Agency has also flagged nearly a dozen other athletes across sports including athletics, weightlifting, judo, shooting, rowing, and wushu. These incidents follow similar doping issues that affected the Indian contingent during the Commonwealth Games.

Why it matters

The recurring doping violations threaten India's medal prospects at the Asian Games and could complicate the country's long-term bid to host the 2036 Olympics.
