India is set to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning across northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, and western regions until 19 September, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Punjab are among the areas likely to see heavy rainfall during 15-17 September, while states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha are expected to receive widespread rain on specific dates. The monsoon deficit stands at 15%, with cumulative rainfall at 662.3 mm against the normal 778.6 mm from 1 June to 12 September. The northeastern states, including Assam and Meghalaya, will also remain wet with isolated thunderstorms. The IMD forecast highlights the persistence of wet weather despite the deficient monsoon.
