· Business · Indian Express, Zee News
Gold rates in India on 18 August 2026 were ₹15,589 per gram for 24‑carat, ₹14,290 for 22‑carat and ₹11,692 for 18‑carat, according to Good Returns. The 24‑carat price rose by ₹23, 22‑carat by ₹20 and 18‑carat by ₹16 compared with the previous day. Gold and silver prices dipped after an international market panic, yet Middle‑East turmoil keeps the precious‑metal market volatile. Brent crude hovered at $91.22 a barrel while U.S. crude traded near $85, driven by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The piece also notes a 60‑day U.S.–Iran pact that ended without extension, and Iran’s annual inflation rate at 66%.
Why it matters
Higher gold prices raise costs for jewellery purchases and investment portfolios in India. Rising oil prices can push petrol prices up, affecting transport and household expenses.
