· Sports · Sportstar, Times of India, India Today
The Badminton Association of India announced that the 2028 India Open will be shifted from New Delhi to Guwahati. Badminton Association of India secretary general Sanjay Mishra stated that the relocation is necessary due to a clash of tournament dates with Republic Day security arrangements in the national capital. The BWF World Tour event will be held in Guwahati for the first time before returning to New Delhi for the 2029 edition. The tournament traditionally takes place in the last week of January.
Why it matters
The temporary relocation offers northeastern sports fans a rare opportunity to witness top-tier international badminton while managing logistical constraints in New Delhi.
