India Opposes Attacks on Merchant Shipping and Civilian Infrastructure in West Asia

India on Tuesday reiterated its strong opposition to attacks on merchant shipping and civilian infrastructure amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that strikes by Yemen's Houthi rebels on economic assets and commercial vessels undermine regional stability and freedom of navigation through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The diplomatic position follows recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Aramco energy facilities that injured 73 people and temporarily disrupted global oil supplies. External affairs minister S Jaishankar also discussed regional developments and the Houthi threat with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the margins of the BRICS Summit. Jaiswal noted that an Indian seafarer remains missing following an attack on a Panama-flagged oil tanker off the coast of Oman.
