India plans Krishna River Water Metro linking Vijayawada and Amaravati

A team from the Government of India will conduct a preliminary study on a proposed Krishna River Water Metro connecting Vijayawada and Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh. The project, proposed by the A.P. Inland Waterways Authority, aims to alleviate road congestion and enhance regional mobility using electric or hybrid vessels. It covers a waterway distance of about 30 km and falls under National Waterway-4. The initiative supports the Centre's Net-Zero commitments and could boost tourism in the capital region. Officials cited rapid urbanisation and soaring commuter demand as key drivers for the proposal. The study follows a request by APIWA Chairman Z. Siva Prasad to IWAI Chairman Sushil Kumar Lohani.
