India Records Rs 38,424 Crore in Defence Exports for 2025-26

· Business · India Today, Economic Times

India's defence exports reached a record Rs 38,424 crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a 62.66 per cent increase from the previous financial year. Total domestic defence production climbed to Rs 1.78 lakh crore over the same period, tripling the figures recorded a decade earlier. To sustain this momentum, the government is easing overseas military sales rules through a simplified and expanded Open General Export Licence framework. Indian defence hardware now reaches more than 80 countries worldwide. Ministry of officials note that competing globally requires maintaining strict standards in pricing, product reliability, and long-term maintenance support.

Why it matters

This export surge marks India's transition from a major global military importer to an emerging supplier of defense equipment in international markets.
