India's Buffalo Meat Exports Surge Past $5 Billion Mark
· Business · Indian Express, Economic Times
India's buffalo meat exports reached $5.1 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a 25.6% increase. Growth continued into the current fiscal, with exports rising to nearly $1.5 billion between April and June 2026. The average export value per tonne climbed to $4,392 during the same period, up from $3,591 in the previous fiscal year. Government officials attribute this improved value to stricter quality and hygiene standards enforced by APEDA-registered processing plants. India currently operates 83 integrated abattoirs-cum-meat processing facilities to support these international shipments.
Why it matters
The surge in high-value meat exports strengthens the domestic dairy economy and establishes India as a significant global supplier of buffalo meat.
