India’s First Imaging Satellite in Geosynchronous Orbit Lifts Off Successfully

ISRO successfully launched the EOS-05 Earth observation spacecraft from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Friday. Carried by the GSLV-F17 rocket, the 2,367 kg payload lifted off at 2:55 AM following a 27-hour countdown. The EOS-05 is India's first imaging satellite intended for geosynchronous orbit, hovering at an altitude of approximately 36,000 km to match Earth's rotational speed. The satellite is designed to provide real-time imagery supporting agriculture and disaster management operations across the country. The 51.7-meter GSLV-F17 rocket features a cryogenic upper stage and represents the 19th flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle. This mission serves as a replacement for the unsuccessful GSLV-F10/EOS-03 mission from 2021, which failed due to a cryogenic upper stage anomaly.
