India's Quimcy Dsouza Enters Teqball Semis at Asian Games
· Sports · Times of India, India Today, NDTV Sports
India's Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza advanced to the women's singles semifinals in Teqball at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday. She staged a comeback victory against Japan's top-seeded Yuina Sakamoto, recovering from an opening-game loss to win 2-1 at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center. Dsouza then defeated Cambodia's Koemyean DY 2-0 to finish top of her group and secure a direct semifinal berth. The result leaves her one victory away from guaranteeing India's first-ever medal in the sport, which is making its Asian Games debut. Dsouza will face Indonesia's Ima Sumaya in Saturday's semifinal.
Why it matters
A victory in the upcoming semifinal would guarantee India a historic podium finish in Teqball during the sport's inaugural appearance at the continental Games.
