India Security Chief Visits Beijing for Border Talks Ahead of BRICS Summit

India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing on Monday for a two-day visit to hold boundary talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions follow a series of meetings between the two nations since a deadly clash along their disputed 3,500-kilometre Himalayan border in 2020. Doval is also scheduled to meet China's Vice President Han Zheng during his stay. The diplomatic engagement comes ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled for September 12-13 in New Delhi, which India hopes Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend. Direct flights and border trade between the neighbours have gradually resumed despite lingering distrust.
