· World · Times of India, Hindustan Times, LiveMint
India exercised its Right of Reply at a UN General Assembly Third Committee meeting on Friday, rejecting Islamabad's remarks on Jammu and Kashmir. First secretary at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN Bhavika Mangalanandan accused Pakistan's civilian governments of rarely completing their terms and serving at the army's mercy. She pointed out that a former prime minister remains jailed while his health deteriorates, and accused Islamabad of using cross-border terrorism to divert attention from domestic unrest. Mangalanandan also cited the use of Form 47 to allege rigging and manipulation in Pakistan's 2024 general elections. India asserted that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh remain integral parts of India, stating that the only outstanding issue is the vacation of territory held under illegal occupation by Pakistan.
Why it matters
The diplomatic clash at the UN highlights ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over cross-border terrorism, regional sovereignty, and political stability in South Asia.
