India Southwest Monsoon Remains 13 Percent Deficient With Uneven Spread

India's southwest monsoon is currently 13 percent below normal, with the country receiving 537.6 mm of rain against a normal of 619 mm between June 4 and August 21. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, rainfall distribution has been severely uneven across states. Haryana, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh face deficits of 40 percent or more, while Odisha and Jammu and Kashmir have recorded above-normal rainfall. Active weather systems are bringing wet spells to central, eastern, and northeastern regions including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Assam. Meanwhile, parts of north India are receiving isolated heavy rainfall as the monsoon enters its final stretch.
