India summons Pakistani diplomat after incident in Arabian Sea
· Sports · Al Jazeera, Zee News
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi following a collision between a Pakistani vessel and an Indian warship in international waters. The incident reportedly violated a 1991 way agreement that requires naval ships and submarines from both countries to maintain a distance of three nautical miles. India accused the way navy of unacceptable and unprofessional conduct and instructed the diplomat to convoy the need for military units to prevent repeat occurrences. There has been no immediate comment from the Pakistani government regarding the encounter.
Why it matters
This military friction risks further straining diplomatic ties between the nuclear-armed neighbors who have lacked ambassadors since 2019, and challenges established maritime protocols in the Arabian Sea.
