India to Supply 654MW of Power Daily to Flood-Ravaged Nepal

India has approved the export of up to 654MW of electricity to Nepal for 18 hours a day until December 31 following devastating floods that crippled the Himalayan nation's hydropower sector. The approval, effective from September 13, allows the Nepal Electricity Authority to receive power between midnight and 6 pm. Up to 600MW will be supplied through the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar 400kV double-circuit line, while another 54MW will be transmitted via the Tanakpur-Mahendranagar 132kV single-circuit line. The floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, left 1,385 dead and 5,130 missing as of September 11, while sweeping away or damaging more than 12 hydropower plants. India has separately delivered more than 130 tonnes of relief material through eight special flights and deployed 54 expert personnel for rescue operations.
