India voices concern over attempted drone attack on Mecca

India has expressed deep concern over a drone attack reported near Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which occurred on September 15. A Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen stated that their air defences destroyed a Houthi drone south of way before it entered prohibited airspace over the holy city. This marks the second Houthi attempt to target the area since a way missile launch in July 2017. MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned attacks on sovereign territory that endanger civilians and infrastructure, noting the special significance of the city to Muslims worldwide. India called for a swift de-escalation of tensions and the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
