Indian Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing in Dhaka; Patient Dies
· World · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
An Indian air ambulance, a Beechcraft King Air C90A, made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday after a technical fault caused a door to partially open mid-air. The aircraft was transporting a patient, 56-year-old Anjana Bhowmik, from Agartala to Kolkata when the malfunction occurred at 12,000 feet. Bhowmik was transported to Kurmitola Multicare Specialised Hospital in Dhaka, where she was declared dead. Authorities confirmed that seven people were on board, including two pilots and medical staff, all of whom remained safe. The exact cause of the patient's death remains unclear, and it is not known if the medical emergency was related to the flight's technical issues.
Why it matters
The incident highlights the logistical and diplomatic complexities of cross-border medical evacuations, with the aircraft remaining grounded in Bangladesh pending the resolution of international clearance formalities.
