Indian Army debunks viral claims of Chinese intrusion at Sikkim's Nathu La

· India · Hindustan Times, Times of India

The Indian Army's official fact-checking wing, Indian Army Fact Check (@MythbusterXX), has dismissed social media claims that Chinese vehicles entered Indian territory at Nathu La in Sikkim. The footage actually shows JAC-branded Chinese commercial vehicles operating at the designated India-China border trade point, which functions under bilateral agreements. The Army identified 12 social media handles that circulated the same video between 8.26 am and 12.56 pm on October 26, 2026, calling it a coordinated inauthentic behaviour. The accounts omitted the authorised trade context and falsely portrayed routine commercial movement as an unauthorised military intrusion. The fact-checking wing warned against such disinformation and urged the public not to share unverified content. No group or individual has been named as the originator of the campaign.

Why it matters

The incident shows how routine border trade footage is weaponised to spread false intrusion narratives, potentially inflaming public sentiment and complicating India-China border management.
