The Indian Coast Guard has intensified search and rescue operations for 22 missing crew members after a bulk carrier, M.V. Ocean Winner, sank in the Bay of Bengal. The vessel, which was carrying iron ore from Odisha, issued a distress signal after losing communication on August 22, 2026. A commercial ship, MT AISOPOS, managed to rescue two survivors from liferafts shortly after the incident. Three ICG ships—Varad, Anmol, and Vijit—are currently deployed to locate the remaining 22 crew members, who include Chinese, Myanmarese, and Bangladeshi nationals. The 28-year-old vessel, owned by a firm in Fujian, China, had recently been flagged for maintenance deficiencies by authorities in Bangladesh.
