Indian Government Bonds Hold Steady Ahead of Debt Auction
· Business · Economic Times, Bloomberg
Indian government bonds stabilized on Friday morning as crude oil prices leveled off near $93.5 a barrel in Asian trade. The market faced downward pressure earlier in the week following hawkish minutes from the Reserve Bank of India and a spike in global yields. A 280 billion rupee debt sale is scheduled for later in the day, featuring a 15-year bond that makes up more than half the supply. The benchmark 6.94% 2036 bond yielded 6.8723% at mid-morning, holding near a two-month high. Retail inflation accelerated to 4.45% in July, exceeding the RBI's 4% target and reviving expectations of potential rate hikes.
Why it matters
The debt auction will test investor demand amid rising inflation pressures, hawkish central bank signals, and elevated global bond yields.
