Indian National Declared Bankrupt in Singapore Over Unpaid Wages

An Indian national and Singapore permanent resident, Ramu Palani Velu, has been declared bankrupt following unpaid wage claims by more than 400 migrant workers. A bankruptcy order was issued against Ramu on August 13 by the Singapore courts after multiple workers reported failing to receive their salaries for over two months. Ramu served as a director for seven local companies operating in air-conditioning, plumbing, and building services, including KPA Engineering, SK Industries, and VVR Plant Engineering. The issue surfaced publicly after workers sought assistance from the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management and later gathered at the Ministry of Manpower office in Bendemeer. Ramu subsequently applied for bankruptcy on July 9 after returning to the country to assist authorities with ongoing investigations.
