An Indian national, Suraj Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, was killed in an attack on the vessel MV Cape DAO off Oman on September 23, 2026. The ship, reportedly sailing towards India, had 20 Indian crew members, of whom 19 were safely evacuated by the Royal Navy of Oman. The Centre condemned the attack, urging an end to targeting commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed condolences and confirmed the Embassy in Oman is coordinating the repatriation of the crew.
