The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Mangrol, the third Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, the vessel features over 80% indigenous content and is designed to counter submarine threats in shallow coastal waters. The 900-tonne ship spans 78 metres in length and is equipped with an Abhay hull-mounted sonar, lightweight torpedoes, an RBU-6000 rocket launcher, and the Maareech Advanced Torpedo Decoy System. Powered by three diesel engines coupled to waterjets, the warship can reach speeds of 25 knots and has a range of 1,800 nautical miles. It is named after Mangrol, a coastal town in Gujarat's Junagadh district.

Why it matters
