Indian Navy Leases Two MQ-9B Sea Guardian Drones From General Atomics

The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 1,943-crore contract with American firm General Atomics to lease two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones for the Indian Navy. The 30-month lease aims to bolster the Navy's maritime domain awareness and surveillance capabilities across the Indian Ocean Region. This addition brings the Navy's total fleet of these high-altitude long-endurance systems to four units. The new drones feature configurations similar to the 31 units India is separately procuring under a $3.5 billion deal signed in 2024. The lease will remain active until the delivery of the 31 procured units begins.
