Indian Navy to Commission Diving Support Vessel Nipun on August 31

The Indian Navy will commission the Nipun, its second Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on August 31, 2026. Designed and built indigenously by Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam, the vessel was officially delivered to the Navy on July 30 following extensive trials. The platform is purpose-built to enhance deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, and submarine rescue operations. It features advanced navigation, platform-management systems, and specialized medical facilities to support divers in challenging maritime environments. The induction of the Nipun marks a significant step in the Navy’s drive toward self-reliance in domestic defence shipbuilding.
