Indian New-Age Startups Hit $165 Billion Market Capitalisation
· Business · Economic Times, Indian Express
India's 50 listed, institutionally backed new-age companies have reached a combined market capitalisation of approximately $165 billion, according to Trifecta Capital's New Economy Index Top 50. This valuation marks an increase from the $100 billion milestone recorded two years ago, driven by recent IPOs from companies including Swiggy, Ather Energy, Urban Company, Groww, Lenskart, and Meesho. However, the market performance shows a sharp divergence, with Ather Energy trading at nearly four times its issue price while FirstCry and Ola Electric sit roughly 55% below their debut prices. Meanwhile, Swiggy shareholders approved a proposal to transition the platform into an Indian-owned and controlled company, enabling its quick commerce arm, Instamart, to adopt a higher-margin inventory model. Swiggy investors also voted to cap foreign shareholding at 49.5%, with the resolution passing with 93.96% support.
Why it matters
The expanding public market valuation provides crucial valuation benchmarks for private startups and reshapes exit routes for venture capital investors across India's tech ecosystem.
