Indian Railways Carries 67.27 Crore Passengers in August

Indian Railways recorded a total passenger traffic of 67.27 crore in August 2026, marking an increase from 64.43 crore passengers during the same month last year. Suburban rail services experienced a 9.02% year-on-year growth, carrying 38.01 crore passengers compared to 34.89 crore in August 2025. To meet festival travel demand, the national transporter operated 144 trips of Rakshabandhan special trains between August 25 and 31, 2026. Additionally, the network introduced new Amrit Bharat train services and regularized seven special trains to expand long-distance connectivity. The Ministry of Railways continues to augment services and expand freight infrastructure under broader transit initiatives.
