Indian Railways has initiated a special drive to improve drinking water quality by cleaning and maintaining tanks, filters, and purification systems at railway stations nationwide. Zonal authorities are tasked with inspecting the entire water infrastructure, including borewells, overhead tanks, and water coolers, to ensure they are free from contamination. The maintenance process involves draining, scrubbing, and disinfecting tanks, as well as repairing any leakages or damaged pipelines. The initiative also includes mandatory physical, chemical, and bacteriological testing of water samples collected from various dispensing points. Daily monitoring of residual chlorine levels will be implemented to ensure ongoing safety and hygiene for passengers.
