Indian Refiners to Avoid Tankers on Iran Blacklist

At least three Indian oil refiners and a global energy major will stop using 45 vessels that Iran blacklisted on August 23, 2026, including for ship-to-ship transfers, over security concerns, four sources told Reuters. Iran alleged the ships broke its rules for crossing the Strait of Hormuz and warned of fines, detention, and cargo seizure through its new Persian Gulf Strait Authority. Several blacklisted tankers are owned or chartered by Saudi Aramco and ADNOC, which operate shuttle runs through the Gulf of Oman off Fujairah in the UAE and Sohar in Oman to bypass Iran's clampdown on Hormuz shipping amid the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Why it matters
India imports over 85% of its crude oil, and any disruption to Gulf shipping routes can directly raise import costs, fuel prices, and shipping insurance premiums for Indian refiners, ultimately hitting consumers at the petrol pump.
