Pilgrims traveling to and from Kailash Mansarovar were caught in the disaster on Wednesday, leaving hundreds of travelers unaccounted for over 24 hours. Local authorities report a record number of over 13,500 pilgrims utilizing the Rasuwa route this year due to its lower cost compared to the Humla crossing. The Ministry of External Affairs organizes official annual yatras through Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim, while private operators handle the busier Nepal routes.
