IndiGo Aircraft Grounded After Runway Belly Scraping Incident in Gorakhpur

An IndiGo Airbus A321neo scraped its fuselage along the runway during a landing in Gorakhpur, marking at least the eighth tail-strike incident involving the airline's A321 fleet. The aircraft has remained grounded since the incident came to light on August 19, following its last recorded flight from Delhi to Gorakhpur. Industry sources indicate this is the tenth tail-strike incident for IndiGo since 2023, encompassing eight A321s, one A320, and one ATR aircraft. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau previously launched a comprehensive probe into IndiGo tail strikes following repeated incidents in Delhi and Bengaluru, though no findings have been made public. Pilots attribute the vulnerability to the A321's longer fuselage, while the Directorate General of Civil Aviation previously penalized the airline ₹30 lakh over earlier incidents.
