IndiGo extends cancellation of Saudi flights as regional tensions escalate: Indian mission
· World · The Hindu, LiveMint, Gulf News
Indian airline IndiGo has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Saudi Arabia following escalating security concerns in the region. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh announced that flights to and from Riyadh will remain cancelled until October 31, 2026, while services to Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah are suspended until October 27, 2026. The latest cancellations follow a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks in Saudi Arabia, including a strike on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam that killed an Indian national and injured two others. Other Indian carriers, including Air India, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, have also halted or extended the suspension of their operations in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with airlines and tour operators to facilitate the early return of affected Indian Umrah pilgrims.
Why it matters
The flight suspensions have stranded Indian travelers and Umrah pilgrims in the region, prompting the Indian government to establish 24-hour control rooms and coordinate emergency evacuations.
