IndiGo unveils premium cabin plan with lie-flat seats for A350 fleet
· Business · Indian Express, The Hindu
IndiGo announced a three-class cabin configuration on its 60 Airbus A350 orders, featuring 16 lie-flat business class seats and a premium economy section, with the first 10 aircraft scheduled for delivery from June 2028. The airline, currently operating four A321XLR narrow-body jets on medium-haul and select long-haul routes to Athens and Amsterdam, plans to expand its wide-body fleet to operate deep inside Europe and potentially North America. CEO Willie Walsh emphasized that premium demand has strengthened globally, but the airline will maintain its core low-cost structure and cost discipline to ensure long-haul profitability. The A350s will be deployed on routes deep inside Europe and potentially North America, while the A321XLR fleet will serve the Asian region and select European destinations.
Why it matters
IndiGo passengers will gain access to lie-flat business class and premium economy on long-haul international flights starting in 2028, marking a significant product upgrade for India’s largest airline as it prepares for its first wide-body operations.
