Initial Fuel Loading Begins at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project's Units 7 and 8

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd has commenced initial fuel loading for units 7 and 8 of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Stations at Rawatbhata. The 700MWe units are indigenous pressurised heavy water reactors representing a major milestone in the country's nuclear power programme. The process began following safety evaluations and system integrity audits cleared by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. Unit 8 has now entered a key commissioning stage ahead of its first approach to criticality and eventual power generation. NPCIL currently operates 24 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 8.78 GWe and has 17 additional units under various stages of implementation across the country.
