Pakistan's PNS Hunain collided with India's INS Kolkata in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, damaging the front arch of the 2,600-tonne patrol ship while the 7,400-tonne destroyer continued its deployment. The Indian MEA said INS Kolkata suffered no structural damage. Both countries summoned envoys after New Delhi said INS Kolkata was on a routine surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea while PNS Hunain shadowed it during the Pakistan Navy's Sea Spark exercise. Sources said Hunain was travelling at high speed before a close-range manoeuvre grazed the destroyer; an OSINT account claimed four Pakistani personnel were injured, but Pakistan has not officially confirmed the incident.
Why it matters
The collision has increased diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. The damage forced PNS Hunain to return to harbour for repairs, while India said its destroyer remained operational.
