Instagram Puts New Limits on Undisclosed AI Profiles
· Technology · TechCrunch
Instagram is updating its creator labels to require explicit disclosure for AI-generated profiles and accounts featuring artificial people. Accounts that fail to properly label their AI-generated personas will face reduced reach under the platform's new policy. Creators who use the new labels correctly will not be penalized simply for featuring an AI-generated subject. The requirement does not apply to routine creative edits, such as photo touch-ups, caption polishing, or graphic creation. Meta introduced the change following widespread user frustration with deceptive AI-generated personalities used across social media for marketing and wellness claims.
Why it matters
Social media creators and businesses utilizing artificial intelligence to manage online personas must now clearly disclose their methods or risk having their content reach reduced.
