iPhone Duo troubles persist: Shoddy apps, FaceTime camera glitch, and hinge durability concerns
· Technology · Mashable, Engadget
Users report that iPhone Duo-mode apps such as WhatsApp and Instagram display poor scaling, making them appear shoddy on the larger horizontal display. FaceTime frequently drops or fails to connect when Duo mode is active, with the camera often showing a black screen or freezing mid-call. A known hardware issue describes the hinge mechanism as fragile, cracking near the volume buttons after moderate use and occasionally detaching entirely. The problems affect all iPhone models capable of Duo mode, though the hinge issue appears more prevalent in units sold outside India.
Why it matters
iPhone owners relying on Duo mode for media consumption or video calls face degraded performance and potential hardware failure, prompting frustration and raising questions about Apple's quality control ahead of the festive upgrade cycle.
